Abstract

Academic writing ensures the clear and effective dissemination of research. The American Psychological Association (APA, 2020a) methodology is one of the most widely used writing methodologies for citations, references, and formatting in the social sciences, education, and psychology. Employing the APA methodology in academic writing, promoting academic integrity, standardizing research presentation, and improving reading are some of the pillars explored in this article. This article also explores the development of the APA style, its principles, standards, and impact on academic writing. A methodological section examines empirical research that studies the effectiveness of the APA format. The discussion focuses on the benefits and challenges of using the APA style; the conclusion provides practical recommendations for applying these standards to academic writing across the various disciplines where this methodology is used.
